TLDR: Let the colors run wild
What We Do
Operation Figment is a project we founded to create hand-dyed fibers for crafters searching for the colors and patterns that can only come from a crafter's imagination. We know that finding these products at an affordable price can be difficult and that high prices are a deterrent for those looking to explore their creativity. We strive to keep our prices lower by creating small batches of each product. Once it is sold out, that product is gone, with no promises of when it will return.
TLDR: Crazy Horse Girls
Who We Are
We are sisters who craft and play with horses. We grew up in the Midwest, riding and training horses while crafting anytime the weather was bad. After graduating from college with degrees in Equine Science and Art, we started teaching riding lessons. Our love of horses has shaped our lives immensely, but we never stopped crafting. We like making colorful projects for us and our horses, but could not always find the materials in the colors we wanted, so we thought, "Well, why don't we just make them ourselves?". Using the knowledge gained from the fibers courses in college and our love of all things colorful, we started dyeing our own fabric and yarn. It was then that we rediscovered our love for dyeing fibers, but we did not have enough projects to use them all in. Instead of letting them go to waste sitting in the basement or stopping our creativity, we decided to let our imaginations run wild and share the results with others who would love and use them.
TLDR: What Mini?
Why The Name
Figment is one of our miniature horses and my golden child, who can do nothing wrong. Not to be confused with the golden one he lives with, who is a dyrri (little monster). We got Figment as a payment for tune-up training on different mini (who ended up getting bought by our friend and staying). When he came to us, he was scared of people. It took a long time to gain his trust, but now, though still a little nervous sometimes, he is one of the sweetest and most puppy-like horses we have. There were three main reasons that he was renamed Figment. First, his original name did not have any cutesy nicknames, and he didn't know it, so it was easy to change. Second, he was named after Figment the Imagination Dragon because I am obsessed with dragons and will take any opportunity to name my pets after them. And finally, we did not want to tell my dad that we got another mini, so when he finally came to the barn and asked about him, we could honestly say, "Oh, him? That's not another mini, that is just a Figment of your imagination."
That sentiment is the exact feeling we got when we came home with more art supplies and would just claim "nothing" when asked what was in the bag. So when we decided to start this business, we wanted to give our customers the ability to tell the nay-sayers that don't want you to get any more yarn and fabric that "I didn't, that is just a figment of your imagination". Thus, Operation Figment was born with Figy as our mascot.
